how to adapt a baby shirt to dog shirt [Jul. 17th, 2008|09:24 pm]

Ive been a member of this community for a while and decided to finally post my first entry! This is such an adorable community btw :) This is a great way to get unique, custom clothing for your dog for DIRT CHEAP!!! If your dog is as spoiled as my baby is, this would be a great addition to their wardrobe. This is a no sew project, but if you are feeling productive unlike me, you could cut it apart and sew it back together however you want.

hooded raincoat pattern [Jun. 9th, 2008|03:24 pm]
DIY dog stuff

yesterday i took my puppy out for a river tubing trip with my friends...the day started out great and then bam...thunderstorm. luckily, we were at a point on the river where it cuts through a golf course and we were able to find shelter in the pro shop but, my poor baby was soaked and shivering like crazy. i decided that i want her to have a nice, warm, raincoat for such situations. i want it to have a hood because i've heard that poodles are prone to ear infections if water gets in their ears. i haven't been able to find anything i like so i thought i would see if anyone here has a pattern or knows of one. thanks!

my baby zuzuCollapse )

also...suggestion to mods...could we perhaps start tagging posts according to subject (coat pattern, sweater pattern, diet concerns, treat recipes, etc.), then list all the tags somewhere on the front page, in order to quickly find relevant info before we double post (and my apologies if i have)?

Question [Apr. 18th, 2008|03:23 pm]

What, if anything, do you give your dog when they're constipated?

I don't want to run to the vet right away because my dog always comes out traumatized due to the way the assistants handle him (yet they won't let me do it because I don't have "experience," oh but they let me handle the after effects).

Pics are blurry, 'cause nature light is low at this time of the year.

A dog sweater [Jan. 30th, 2008|10:44 pm]
DIY dog stuff
It's done now. The idea was to make an overalls to my whippet, but it got so complicated and frustfrating and would have been hard to put on, so i disaded to unravel it a bit and do a sweater. it took about a year to make :D only because i got bored with it and left it be.

Also the colour changes a bit 'cause i bought the threads separate times..

But here it is:

I attempted to make a dog jacket for my little monster, Koopa. Unfortunately, after I had finished the peice, I lost it and he grew a little bit more. But I found it and put it on him just to see what it would look like :)

I know I messed up a little bit, but eh, not bad for a first try :)

Puppy vest [Dec. 13th, 2007|11:51 pm]
DIY dog stuff
I just got my first puppy (since I've moved out of my mom's) two weeks ago. His name is Chewy and today he his 10 weeks old. He's the runt of the litter (only 1lb), and he's the second love of my life!

Here he is in a jacket/vest I made for him. I got the pattern from http://www.sewing.circleofcrafters.com/freepetvestpattern.html . I made another one for him last week for Christmas. It says "ho ho ho" all over it, and I lined it in black fleece to keep him extra warm. I bought some baby clothes, and I'm going to use the fabric to make a few more, just so he has a little bit of a wardrobe :p

biscuits! [Nov. 17th, 2007|07:44 pm]

[music |And For This -- Rachel Ries]

We personalized this batch of super-easy dog biscuits, and made so many I'm definitely going to have to give some away!
pictures behind the cutCollapse )

The recipe is from the ASPCA (warning: pdf!), and calls for whole wheat flour, wheat germ, rye flour and yeast, among other things. Parsley seemed like an appropriate addition, either mixed in or pressed on top. It's easy and huge, and the shaping probably takes the most time.
